We don't have a lot of the old answers and in that sense I think that there is some kind of spiritual crisis in the world"– Michael Crummey

A masterful collaboration between filmmaker, Justin Simms and writer, Michael Crummey.
Hard Light, Michael Crummey’s book, is a requiem for hard-toiled life—eked out half a century ago in the isolated coastal outports of Newfoundland, an entire way of life, now no longer.
Finding ample elucidation in Crummey’s writing, Justin Simms’ film of the same name employs these past lives of steadfast devotion to peer at the empty inner heart of modern life and relationships. Personal and articulate interviews with Crummey are interwoven with dramatic recreations of the memories of outport ancestors, and are overlaid by literary passages that shine profound insight on a way of life swept by cultural change.
