A Time Soon Forgotten
The book A Time Soon Forgotten is made from a series of photographs I made during the Covid Pandemic. They were mostly taken within fifty miles of my
home on St. Margaret’s Bay in Nova Scotia. This was simply because of the restrictions on travel that were in place at that time. Interestingly enough
I think that despite this narrow focus the work actually reflects the reality
of what happened to people and communities everywhere
during that troubled time.
It is not a stretch to say that the COVID 19 pandemic affected everyone
on the Earth. In Nova Scotia, a provincial State of Emergency was declared
on March 22, 2020. People could not leave the province and could only
leave their residence for essential items and services. Laws gave the
government broad powers to do whatever they deemed was necessary
to contain the spread of the virus.
As we all experienced, the Covid 19 Pandemic put a complete stop or
slowdown to many things. My work as a filmmaker and photographer largely
came to a halt. But as a documentarian I was driven by a personal motivation
to record my impressions of this challenging time so I ventured out when
I could. I thought it would be important some day that this period
of history was recorded visually.
All the photographs are in black and white. I hope the collection will
reflect in some way the experiences of isolation and turmoil felt by people.
They also record a time of protest when many long simmering social and political issues came to the surface and people took to the streets.
